Dr Thabo Maleka
Dr Thabo Elias Maleka graduated with MBChB degree and postgraduate Diploma in Occupational and Environmental Health, from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in 2009 and 2022 respectively. He has over 10 years of experience as an Emergency Medicine practitioner and over 6 years involvement in Sports Medicine at different levels. He is currently completing the research work of an MSc in Sports Medicine from Pretoria University
He is a member of the Sports Medicine doctors forum of South African Football Association (SAFA) where he serves as a team physician for various national teams including the senior men’s team (Bafana Bafana), the U23 men’s team, U17 Women’s national teams. He is currently the team physician for Supersport United Football Club’s senior team participating in the premier soccer league, and a former team doctor for Pretoria Callies Football Club participating in the Motsepe Foundation Championships (participating in the National First Division).
Dr Maleka serves as a member of the High Performance athletes support committee of Tshwane University of Technology. He has recently been appointed as the Chief Medical Officer of the University Sports South Africa (USSA), currently charged to lead a team of medical professionals to take care of high performance athletes at the FISU World University Games 2025 to be held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.
